DataCite’s members work with data centers, stewards, libraries, archives, universities, publishers and research institutes that host repositories and who have responsibility for managing, holding, curating, and archiving data and other research outputs.

The vast majority of DataCite Members are also Providers of DataCite DOI services, acting as DOI allocating agents.

The LYRASIS DataCite US Community is a national community of practice for non-profit organizations in the US dedicated to creating and maintaining DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) for research data, scholarly content, and unique cultural heritage materials.

DataCite members enable data owners, stewards, or archives to assign persistent identifiers to research data. In 2020 DataCite has changed its membership model and offers three types of membership: 1) Member-only (this type of Member wants to collaborate with DataCite or be part of DataCite’s governance. These Members do not register DOIs.
